Description
LEROY Circular silver dish/display stand in the Renaissance style. The rim is decorated with an appliqué design featuring a mascaron (in the style of a tragic mask) and a pair of facing lion heads. These elements alternate with two escutcheons bearing a stylised interlaced monogram: Flat rim. Mercury hallmarks (1st standard, .950) for French pieces intended for export. A hallmark known as the “Rabbit’s Head”, applied upon its return to France. Master goldsmith’s hallmark: Gustave LEROY (“LC&Cie” and a royal crown), granted in 1896 and crossed out in 1897. Full signature of the jeweller “J. PIAULT” (Jules Piault) on the reverse. Diameter: 26.8 cm. Weight: 668.2 grams Shows signs of wear (scuffs, micro-scratches).
