JBC ODIOT, Goldsmith to Napoleon I A rare pair of silver salt cellars from the Empire period by JBC ODIOT. Each salt cellar rests on a square, fluted base, featuring four ‘ball’ feet. The upper section is circular in shape, with the interior finished in vermeil (gold on silver). One features a raised design. Hallmarks of 1st Title (.950), known as ‘Rooster’ and a guarantee hallmark for PARIS 1809–19, as well as the hallmarks of Jean-Baptiste Claude ODIOT (a hallmark bearing his initials ‘JBCO’ and a blacksmith’s bellows), appointed in 1785 as a supplier to the Emperor. Height: 7.4 cm. Diameter: 7.7 cm Base dimensions: 5 x 5 cm Weight: 271 grams. The Empire and its splendour marked a glorious chapter for ODIOT, under the leadership of Jean-Baptiste Claude ODIOT, whose extraordinary talent was rewarded with prestigious commissions from the Emperor and his family: the sceptre and sword of the Coronation, the cradle of the King of Rome, the magnificent services for Madame Mère and Pauline Borghese, the Emperor’s travelling service… ODIOT’s reputation spread beyond the borders of the Empire and opened the doors to all the courts of Europe.
