CHRISTOFLE – ‘DELAFOSSE’ model Louis XVI-style silver-plated cutlery set for 12 guests, comprising 49 pieces: - 12 table forks. L: 21.5 cm; - 12 table spoons. L: 21.5 cm; - 12 table knives. L: 25.7 cm; - 12 dessert knives. L: 22.2 cm; - 1 ladle. L: 31.8 cm. Handles in a violin-shaped design with a scalloped decoration of foliage, rosettes and leafy garlands. Hallmarks of the silversmith’s workshop: (“CC” and scales), used between 1844 and 1935. Full-word signatures of the CHRISTOFLE workshop on the handles. Shows signs of wear (probable repairs to the blades, black marks). In a wooden cutlery case comprising 2 trays. Case dimensions: H: 11.4 cm. L: 37.2 cm. D: 30.6 cm. Model created in 1907, drawing inspiration from the Louis XVI period with motifs inspired by Antiquity. These ornaments are derived from the work of Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734–1789), a French ornamentalist and architect who theorised the Louis XVI style and heralded the dawn of Classicism. This design was notably chosen by the Parisian hotel Le Meurice to adorn its tables.
