Description
CHRISTOFLE – ‘EMPIRE’ model (GRATEBOESSE).
Set of 9 melon forks in silver-plated metal.
Handles feature a neoclassical design of palmettes and water leaves, ending in gadroons and knobs.
Include lozenges embellished with scrolls and small flowers; the interior of the lozenges features the so-called “gratteboessé” finish.
Trident-shaped prongs with incised melon and foliage decoration.
Hallmarks of the silversmith’s workshop: (“CC” and scales), used between 1844 and 1935 (handles and prongs).
Serving forks signed: “CHRISTOFLE”
In two anti-tarnish pouches.
Produced over a period of approximately five years, between 1908 and 1913, this is a rare model in the company’s output.
The technique known as ‘gratteboessé’ was intended to create a matt finish within each diamond. However, this model did not meet with the expected success and was therefore replaced by the “Malmaison” model (which is still produced today).
