MANUSCRIPT. THE ONLY KNOWN MANUSCRIPT BY HUET DES VIGNES. A 15th-century French manuscript from the library of Claude-Enoch-Virey, a French humanist with an interest in Italian culture who, with the help of Claude Saumaise, assembled a library of over 4,000 volumes at his home in Châlons in the early 17th century. Upon the death of his wife, Bonne Galloys, he expressed his grief on his bookplate. In-4° format, comprising 251 unnumbered folios, parchment on board, with an ex-libris bearing a coat of arms surrounded by a wreath of laurels, stamped in the centre of the covers and surmounted by a funeral urn symbolising his wife’s ashes; her monogram ‘BG’ is stamped at the corners of the covers and repeated on the spine. Mid-17th-century binding. This precious collection comprises the following six manuscripts: I. *L’Exil* by Maistre Alain Chartier, 130 unnumbered folios; this is a *Treatise on Hope* composed around 1430. II. *Cy commance le livre de Mellibéé et Dame Prudence* (by Renaud de Louhans). 26 folios, numbered. III. *Le Bréviaire de noblesse* (by Alain Chartier). 10 unnumbered folios; the last folio has been cut off and not replaced. The first letter of the text is a large blue and red capital letter three lines high. IV. *Le Renoncement d’amours* (by Huet des Vignes). 28 ff. unnumbered; this is the only known manuscript devoted to *Le Renoncement d’amours*. The author’s name appears in the rhyme of the last line. V. *L’Amant rendu cordelier en l’observance d’amour*. 30 folios, unnumbered. VI. *Le Mirouer des Dames*. 18 folios, unnumbered. This is a collection of 136 poems, each comprising eight lines, composed around 1450. We refer with great interest to the particularly comprehensive study carried out by Eugénie Droz (1893–1976), a Swiss publisher and historian who founded the Librairie Droz in Paris.
