HOURS FOR USE IN RENNES. These Hours for Use in Rennes were produced for Simon Vostre, a bookseller from Mourant (residing) in Paris… undated (1502);
In 8°, printed in Gothic type, 84 unnumbered folios, printed on vellum. 19th-century velvet binding. A beautiful and valuable book of hours. The title page of these Hours for use in Rennes is adorned with a fine woodcut by Philippe Pigouchet. On the verso of the title page is the almanac covering 20 years from 1502 to 1522, followed by the fine plate of the Anatomical Man and the plates depicting the months; each page is surrounded by beautiful borders composed of various woodcuts combining religious and secular scenes with decorative motifs, and 16 large full-page illustrations depicting biblical subjects. At the beginning and end of the volume are inserted vellum pages covered with prayers handwritten in the 16th and 17th centuries, written in violet ink.
