ANIANUS: *Compotus cum comento familiaris*: together with the necessary figures and diagrams, placed both within the text and at the end of the book – Lugduni [Lyon]; Claude Nourry, 8 November 1510; Small 8vo, 32 unnumbered folios, signed A–D4 – printed in Gothic type; brown morocco with very rich embossed decoration of fillets framing a scrollwork border and a central bouquet; ribbed spine, inside, gilt edges. Binding by THIBARON. Beautiful title page featuring Claude Nourry’s characteristic woodcut; the first page is illustrated with a very fine woodcut initial. The text is illustrated with 10 large and beautiful woodcut figures of exceptional quality; 8 of these, depicting the hands essential to understanding the text, are engraved within a beautiful arabesque frame. Anianus was a 12th-century Latin astronomer and poet. He is the author of mnemonic verses on the signs of the zodiac. A fine and rare copy of this astronomical poem dealing with solar and lunar cycles, as well as movable feasts. From the library of Paul Arbaud (1832–1911), a prolific French bibliophile, collector and patron of the arts who bequeathed his collection to the city of Aix-en-Provence, bearing his bookplate.
