RONSARD (Pierre de): Sonnets by P. de Ronsard set to music for four parts by Guillaume Boni. First and second books. In Paris, by Adrian le Roy and the widow R. Ballard, MDLXXVII (for the first book) and M.D.XCIIII (for the second book);
Eight volumes in oblong 8° (161x210 mm), each comprising 24 folios, on soft vellum. Modern binding. The only known complete copy of the two books of Ronsard’s sonnets, set to music by Guillaume Boni, each comprising the four parts: Bassus, Tenor, Contratenor and Superius. The first known edition of these sonnets was published in 1576; it was reprinted in 1577 and 1579. However, none of the known copies is complete with all four parts together. Lesure and Thibault, Bg. Des Editions d’Adrian le Roy et Robert Ballard, 307 and 315: An extremely rare copy in perfect condition with superb engravings on the title pages and initials. Three handwritten names on the blank page of the Superius volume of the first book. (Water stain at the bottom of two volumes; some corners reinforced).
