FULGOSE (Baptiste): *Contramours*. *L’Anteros, or Contramour*, by Sir Baptiste Fulgose, formerly Duke of Genoa. The dialogue by Baptiste Platine, a gentleman of Cremona, against foolish loves. Paradox Against Love. Paris, Martin Le Jeune, 1581; Small quarto, 6 unnumbered folios, 307 numbered pages, antique marbled vellum with flaps. Contemporary binding. The translation of this highly interesting work is by Thomas Sébillet, about whose life very little is known, and to whom we owe the *Art Poétique François*, published in 1548. Sébillet translated the writings of Frugoso, the former Doge of Genoa, and is also the author of the third part of this volume, ‘Paradoxe contre l’Amour’. On the upper inside front cover is the large bookplate of Antoine de La Mare, Lord of Chênevarin, whose handwritten bookplate also appears at the top of the title page.
