VIRGIL: The Georgics. Latin text and French translation by Jacques Delille. Illustrated edition with woodcuts by Aristide Maillol. Paris, Philippe Gonin, 1937–1943; 3 volumes, large 4° format, in loose sheets with printed covers, slipcases and cases. A fine edition of the Georgics, illustrated by Maillol with 121 original woodcuts. The print run consists of 750 copies on laid paper specially produced for this edition. One of 100 copies, it bears the number 28/100, with a double set of woodcuts in black and red chalk forming a third volume in two parts. Ten red chalk proofs of unfinished woodcuts, printed on China paper, have been included. Maillol’s monogram appears on each of the plates in the sets as well as on the plates printed on China paper.
