Attributed to Anthonie Palamedesz (1601–1673) The Chess Game, oil on panel, 47.5 × 62.5 cm. Provenance: Eynard Collection. The painting was acquired by Jacques Eynard in January 1799. In a letter to his father, Gabriel-Antoine Eynard, he described the work as “a superb painting depicting men and women playing chess, others watching a woman play, and still others engaged in conversation. ‘The figures and drapery are exquisitely rendered’.” Bibliography: Renée Loche, “La collection Eynard”, 1979, p. 210.
