Description
After David Teniers (1610–1690)
Old Woman Spinning, oil on panel, 28 × 21 cm.
Provenance: Eynard Collection. The painting was acquired by Jacques Eynard in Paris in March 1799. In a letter to his father, Gabriel-Antoine Eynard, he describes the work as “a very pretty painting depicting an old woman spinning”; his father, however, already disputed the attribution of the work at the time in a letter dated 5 June 1799: “ ‘I find it hard to believe that the spinner is by the good Teniers’.” Bibliography: Renée Loche, “La collection Eynard”, 1979, p. 210.
