Hendrik Mommers (1623–1693) Caprice of the Forum in Rome, oil on canvas, signed, 62x92 cm. Provenance: Eynard Collection , acquired by Gabriel-Antoine Eynard in Geneva in June 1803; he attributed the work to Murillo at the time: “A superb painting which I believe to be by Bartolomeo Murillo, depicting a market in a Roman forum surrounded by very fine examples of ancient and modern architecture, with many figures and animals rendered with great skill”.
