Attributed to P. Orr & Sons, Madras — ‘Swami’ style
A pair of double gold cufflinks, each oval-shaped plate featuring a repoussé and chiselled high-relief decoration of a Hindu deity within a beaded border, the plates connected by a small chain.
So-called ‘Swami’ jewellery, popularised in Madras (South India) by P. Orr & Sons from the 1870s onwards, adorned with figures of Hindu deities in high relief, highly prized by European clients in colonial India.
18-carat gold (750 ‰), foreign craftsmanship (South India).
Late 19th century.
