Gold ribbon bracelet with sapphires, emeralds and diamonds
A wide, supple ribbon bracelet with an openwork and textured design evoking an interlacing pattern of twigs, crafted from openwork chiselled yellow gold and set with ten diamonds, ten sapphires and ten round-cut emeralds, all set in claws. Tongue clasp.
Signed Gübelin, master’s mark and numbered 3553-Z.
Swiss-made. 18-carat yellow gold (750 ‰). Circa 1960–1970.
Founded in Lucerne in 1854, the Gübelin house takes its name from Eduard Jakob Gübelin, who took over the watchmaking workshop where he had served his apprenticeship in 1899. Renowned watchmakers and jewellers, the Gübelins became world-famous above all for their gemmological laboratory, established in 1923; Eduard J. Gübelin (1913–2005) is regarded as one of the greatest gemmologists of the 20th century and a pioneer in the study of inclusions in gemstones.
