‘SPUTNIK’ BROOCH
Gold, turquoise, coral and diamonds
A radiating ‘Spoutnik’-style brooch in yellow gold, decorated with bristling gold wires, set with eighteen turquoise cabochons in the outer ring and eighteen coral cabochons in the inner ring, with the centre adorned by an old-cut diamond.
The central diamond weighs approximately 0.20 carats. Eighteen turquoise cabochons and eighteen coral cabochons.
French craftsmanship, 18-carat yellow gold (750 ‰); eagle’s head hallmark. Master’s mark difficult to read, possibly that of René Jacquiot (initials RJ, symbol: a pointed tower, 65 rue du Château des Rentiers in Paris, engraved on 15 March 1947). Circa 1960.
