Description
Porcelain vase with bevelled sides, polychrome decoration and calligraphic inscription
A baluster-shaped vase with bevelled sides (square/quadrangular in cross-section), made of polychrome glazed porcelain in the ‘Famille Rose’ style, featuring two movable ring handles attached to the shoulders (‘ram’s head’ mounts or free rings, a classic Chinese motif).
One side is adorned with a naturalistic design: a bird perched on a flowering branch, surrounded by peonies and foliage in shades of green, mauve and pale pink against a cream-white background. The adjacent side bears a calligraphic inscription in Chinese characters, arranged in vertical columns, likely comprising a poem or a dedication as well as a workshop or painter’s signature.
‘Famille rose’ style, of the late Qing tradition or a 20th-century reproduction
