Description
A pair of apple-shaped boxes made of enamelled metal, using the cloisonné technique, with removable lids fitted with a gilded stem representing the fruit’s stalk. The body and lid are adorned with a polychrome floral design (red, pink and blue flowers, green foliage) on a reserved background, bordered by gold fillets.
• The first piece has an ivory/cream background.
• The second has a midnight blue background with a stylised cloud motif, whilst the interior of the box is lacquered black.
The lid can be removed simply by grasping the stem, revealing the box’s hollow interior (probable use: pill box, solid perfume case or jewellery box).
Chinese-inspired style, probably produced in the 20th century (China, for export).
