A beautiful head of a Khmer deity, depicted with a serene and contemplative expression. The face, with its delicately modelled features, has finely drawn brow ridges, slightly half-closed almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a mouth with full lips, graced with a subtle smile.
The head is crowned with a tall, architecturally designed tiara, particularly remarkable for the richness of its decoration: several tiers of beaded and floral motifs rise in stages to the summit, where a conical bun—characteristic of ancient Khmer statuary—rises.
The piece as a whole displays a decorative refinement particularly close to the style of Banteay Srei, renowned for the precision of its ornamentation, the finesse of its execution and the use of high-quality sandstone. The faces from this period retain certain features inherited from the Koh Ker style, but have become more delicate and refined.
