MAS 1873 Category D France, Third Republic (1870–1940). Service revolver, Model 1873, manufactured by the St Étienne Arms Factory. Calibre 11 mm. 6-shot. Serial number ‘G 57588’. All parts bear the same number. Markings on the barrel: ‘Mle 1873’ and beneath the cylinder: ‘Mre d’Armes de St Étienne’. The barrel is dated ‘S. 1877’ and bears the inspection marks ‘M’ within a circle for the director of the MAS (General Maignien, 1873–1882) and ‘J’ within a circle for the chief inspector. Checkered walnut grip panels. Mechanism in good working order, with both single and double-action modes; cocking notches are crisp and free of play. Complete. 24 cm (barrel 11.5 cm).
