DOUBINSKI FRERES (1938–1983) for SIMAT Furniture (Société Industrielle des meubles d’Art de Touraine), A substantial living room unit, ‘Castor’ (?) model, in teak veneer, comprising four modules which are either independent or can be joined together French-made, Scandinavian-inspired, circa 1960. Manufacturer’s label: Made in France, Doubinski Frères, SIMAT furniture, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps Dimensions of each unit: approx. h215 x 89cm The products were sold under two companies, each with their own brand names: - The S.I.M.A.T. brand (Société Industrielle de Mobilier d’Art de Touraine) was a subsidiary of Doubinski Frères. High-end modular furniture made from teak and rosewood, bearing the ‘N.F. Meuble’ quality label - The Meubles D.F. brand from the 1960s onwards This contemporary, typically French-style range is aimed at a wider audience. It is sold directly by Doubinski Frères. Charles Doubinski, the Chairman, and Marcel Doubinski, the Managing Director, worked in particular with Raymond Loewy on the furniture designs.In 1966, the company employed nearly 1,200 workers (more than 800 at La Morinerie). In addition to Montreuil, furniture depots were established in Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and Mulhouse.
