Description
TAPESTRY FROM THE MANUFACTURE OF AUBUSSON - late 19th century Scène galante dite : l'Appeau ( ou La Chasse aux Oiseaux) d'après un carton de François Boucher dérivé du cercle de Jean Joseph Dumons ou de Jacques Nicolas Julliard It shows a young couple in a park landscape, a net on the water's edge, reeds and birds, a quiver of flowery arrows and a group of putti (lovers) sculpted on a pedestal on the left. The net is an essential element in the gallant iconography of the 18th century, symbolising the capture of hearts. This is a fine rocaille composition, with elegant Louis XV costumes, sculpted loves and the amorous symbolism of hunting. The border acts as a picture frame, with scrolls of leaves surrounded by sprigs of polychrome stylised flowers. Beautiful polychromy In wool and silk Beautifully fresh colours Good condition Expert : Frank KASSAPIAN Lined and braided tapestry Label on the back of Maison Emir in Lyon, Cannes and Biarritz 195 x 195 cm
