CHINA, Late 19th century- Early 20th century - TONG TAI Circular box in silver 800°/°° with a purplish section, resting on four console feet ending in three leaves, engraved floral decoration on the slightly domed lid. Stylized floral engraving on the top. The lid reveals a small mirror (damaged), suggesting that the box was a powder or make-up box. Chinese hallmark with 4 characters: Tong Tai and "fine silver", late Qing dynasty work for export, Canton or Shanghai. Diameter: 10 cm H. Height : 6 cm Weight: 178.6 g Shock and damaged hinge Provenance: according to family tradition, given to his cook by the last Emperor of China, Puyi. However, this information is not documented.
