Description
Eugène Viollet-Le-Duc (1814–1879) The City of Carcassonne (Aude) P., Gide, 1858, in-8 booklet, 52 pp., 1 map, red half-shagreen with corners, gilt fillet on the covers, decorated spine, date at the tail, gilt head, bookplate of Ricardo Heredia, Count of Benahavis. First edition, rare. “I am not aware of anywhere else in Europe where there exists such a complete and formidable complex of 6th-, 12th- and 13th-century defences, such an interesting subject for study, or a more picturesque setting.” A rare booklet published during Viollet-Le-Duc’s most extensive restoration project. A very well-bound copy, from the library of Ricardo Heredia, Count of Benahavis, a great Spanish bibliophile. “Today, Salvà-Heredia’s books are scattered across the globe, and there are few collectors who do not honour their library with one of these precious volumes.” (Antonio Rodriguez-Monino). Some scuffing and foxing.
