Collectors’ fossils. Large tooth from the primitive whale Basilosaurus (Zeuglodon). 34–38 million years old. Length approx. 10.5 cm. A rare specimen of this size and exceptional quality of entirely natural preservation. An archaic carnivorous cetacean, ancestor of sperm whales and whales, it reached 21 metres in length and weighed 6 tonnes. Sahara. Priabonian, Upper Eocene.
