Description
ALICE PAPON-VIDAL With ‘Lessons’ Nos. 7, 8 and 9, Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital subverts the conventions of advertising photography to offer an unexpected perspective on the highly standardised world of CBRN risks. Constructed as a deliberate nod to the famous Aubade campaigns, the three compositions play on contrast: the elegance of black and white and the suggested sensuality of the poses are countered by the protective equipment, masks, coveralls and technical procedures specific to exceptional public health situations. The titles – ‘Undress Without Risk’, ‘Shower Them with a Glance’ and ‘Tame CBRN Risk’ – extend this play on subversion by transforming decontamination and protection procedures into ‘lessons’ with a double meaning. Straddling the line between promotional photography and artistic imagery, the series humorously examines our relationship with risk, the vulnerability of the body and the measures designed to protect it. Originally created to raise awareness amongst University Hospital staff regarding training in Annexes SSE 7, 8 and 9, these images are presented here in large format on Dibond, giving them a new presence and a new status: that of images designed to provoke thought, now presented for viewing outside their original context. 3 x 84.1 x 118.9 cm (A0), aluminium, Dibond
