Description
FREDERIC SINTUREL THE MILKY WAY OVER THE PUY DE DÔME About the work: ‘The Milky Way over the Puy de Dôme’ was taken on 22 August 2019 from the foot of the Puy de Pariou, offering a rather unusual view of the Puy de Dôme. The shot had been planned in advance to capture the Milky Way passing over the volcano. As the location is accessible only by footpaths, I cycled there at night on a mountain bike, equipped with suitable lighting. The photograph was taken using a long exposure with a medium-format camera. Beyond the Auvergne landscape, this image represents, for me, a window onto the universe and the mysterious world that surrounds us. The orange hues come from the sodium street lighting in the Clermont-Ferrand conurbation, and the point of light visible on the right is Venus. This photograph was also part of the exhibition organised by the CD63 and subsequently displayed at the Gabriel-Montpied University Hospital. The same exhibition was subsequently shown at the Forges Royales de Guérigny, as part of an event organised in collaboration with the association ‘Restaurons Notre-Dame de Paris’, a few weeks before the cathedral’s reopening. Frédéric Sinturel Trained at the EFET in Paris (1978–1980), I worked in photojournalism and then in illustrative and advertising photography before devoting myself to artistic photography. My work focuses mainly on the night, the landscape and light. In particular, I use long exposures and lighting set up directly on location to construct the image at the moment of capture and to reveal, within real landscapes, a more poetic and mysterious dimension. The ‘Puy de Nature’ series, developed in collaboration with the Puy-de-Dôme Departmental Council and the Henri-Lecoq Museum, was exhibited at Parc Bargoin and subsequently at the Gabriel-Montpied University Hospital 120 x 80 cm, glossy Plexiglas
