an oil painting of a woman in a white shirt and a white hat
Description
LYDIE BONNAIRE THE POWER OF SILENCE Lydie Bonnaire Lydie Bonnaire’s work explores the human form, particularly through female portraits. Often drawing inspiration from old photographs from the early 20th century, the artist extracts her subjects from the past and transposes them into a modern, minimalist space of contemplation. Her paintings do not seek to tell a fixed story, but rather to give form to a vibrant presence. Her subjects’ poses are solemn, stripped of all artifice. The artist works primarily in oil for the richness of the medium and the depth of the colours, but also uses acrylic. At the heart of her approach lies the magnetic intensity of the gaze, the focal point of each work. As they fix their gaze on the viewer, these timeless faces create a silent dialogue, an invitation to delve into their eyes to discover a glimpse of humanity and shared secrets. The chosen colours and the subtle handling of light create a suspended, mysterious and poetic atmosphere around her subjects. Regularly exhibited in galleries, notably at the Galerie Catherine Pennec in Clermont-Ferrand, Lydie Bonnaire creates works of great sensitivity. To include one of her paintings in one’s collection is to bring into one’s space a timeless and deeply evocative presence. 50 x 50 cm, Oil on canvas, 2026
