surgeons performing surgery on a patient in an operating room
Description
BASTIEN DELAUME UNDER THE LIGHT, THE GESTURE About the work In the dim light of the operating theatre, the light is concentrated on a single point: the moment when the gesture becomes decisive. Around this bright spot, figures gather, attentive, almost motionless, as if suspended by the rhythm of the procedure. The photograph plays on a striking contrast between the deep darkness of the surroundings and the clinical light that reveals the hands, the instruments and the partially concealed faces. The large blue areas in the foreground draw the viewer’s gaze into the scene and heighten the sense of immersion: the viewer is no longer observing the operating theatre from the outside, but seems to be taking their place within it. Beyond the surgical act itself, the image evokes precision, concentration and the profoundly collective nature of care. Every gaze converges on the same point; every presence contributes to a shared endeavour. Under the light, the gesture thus seeks to reveal what usually remains invisible: that moment when technical mastery meets the fragility of the human body, in a space where only a few centimetres separate shadow from light 75 × 50 cm, aluminium, Dibond
