Hubert ROBERT (Paris 1733 - 1808) - Vue du cloître des Chartreux à Rome dans les Thermes de Dioclétien - Sanguine, signed and dated lower right Roma H Roberti 1761 - 32.5 x 45 cm - - The proof of this drawing, titled chiostro dei certosi in pen and black ink, from the former Pierre Adrien Pâris collection, is in the Besançon museum (no. 1 of an old album of drawings listed under no. vol. 451). - The great cloister of the Baths of Diocletian, also known as the Cloister of Michelangelo, who is said to have designed it, is one of the largest buildings of its type in Italy. Its construction, along with that of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli on the ruins of the thermal baths, was ordered by Pope Pius IV in 1561. - Expert : René MILLET
