HUGO (Victor). Unpublished Stanzas – Rare or unpublished drawings accompanied by a handwritten stanza. Neuchâtel and Paris, Ides et Calendes, 1952. 2 oblong in-4 volumes in loose sheets, bound in printed cloth-covered boards, with the publisher’s standard slipcase and dust jacket. First edition of 50 unpublished poems by Victor Hugo, rediscovered by the poet’s descendants and published by Henri Guillemin. The second volume contains facsimiles of 11 rare or unpublished drawings accompanied by a handwritten stanza. Printed in a run of 312 copies, all on large white vellum. This copy is inscribed and is one of the 150 reserved for the Bibliophiles de France and the Union Française. The copy is enhanced by an autograph letter from Victor Hugo addressed to the artist André Durand (1807–1867): ‘Thank you, Sir, for what you were kind enough to send me; thank you for what you are kind enough to send. Yours most cordially. Victor H.’ Creases, paper losses.
