BOOK OF HOURS. Compositions by L. Rousseau. Paris, Bouasse, Lebel & Massin, 1889. An in-8 volume, in full contemporary brown calfskin, with a five-ribbed spine; the covers are decorated with gilt fillets and interlacing, each featuring the arms of France and the salamander of François I at the centre, with gilt edges all round. Some fading of the engravings. A sumptuous book of hours illustrated with compositions and ornamentation by L. Rousseau, based on 15th-century medieval manuscripts. Each page of text is finely hand-watercoloured with gold highlights.
