CORNEILLE (P.). *Polyeucte, the Martyr*, a Christian tragedy in five acts. Tours: Mame, 1889. A folio volume, in modern full red morocco with a relief design of drapery on the front cover against a black background; covers and spine preserved (binding by P. Jansana, dated 2012). Separate portrait by F. Gaillard, engraved by F.-E. Burney; five plates by A. Maignan, etched by Le Couteux, Boilvin, Bracquemond and Waltner; and several woodcut illustrations within the text. One of Mame’s most lavish literary publications, with an introduction by Léon Gautier and explanatory notes by Paul Allard, Léon le Grand and Édouard Garnier. Limited edition of 800 copies; this one is one of the 700 printed on white Marais vellum.
