Description
[DRÔME / VERCORS / RESISTANCE] – Unpublished typescript by Louise Vignon entitled *Du Vercors au Diois*, written in Luc-en-Diois in October 1944, with a foreword by Fernand Bouchier, chairman of the Drôme departmental liberation committee. 146 pages, illustrations by the author, photographs, press cuttings, etc. The first 110 pages are bound in two ring binders. The end of the typescript is kept separately and needs to be reconstructed. The illustrations, on tracing paper, appear to be in disarray. A poignant account of the harrowing events that took place in 1943 and 1944 in Crest, Vassieux, Die, etc. An insight into the lives of the villagers and the activities of the Resistance fighters. Louise Vignon was the sister-in-law of Commander George William Frederick FitzGeorge, himself a direct descendant of George III, King of the United Kingdom. She published numerous illustrated articles in the press in the aftermath of the Liberation.
