Description
[GABON / DR ALBERT SCHWEITZER] - A set of 46 photographs relating to Albert Schweitzer (including 15 in which he is pictured) taken during Mr Puner’s visit and the interview with the doctor by Marty Gershen, a renowned journalist for Stars and Stripes. Several other previously unpublished photographs from the Official US Air Force Photo collection and by photographers such as Bankiewicz and Dick Black, etc. (circa 1961). Albert Schweitzer (1875 Kaysersberg–1965 Lambaréné) is renowned worldwide as a philosopher, theologian, organist, musicologist and doctor. In 1913, together with his wife Hélène, Albert settled in Lambaréné, Gabon, where they set up a bush hospital. His many commitments earned him numerous honours (including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952) but also made him a controversial figure.
