Description
[MILITARIA / LOUIS XIV] – Signed letter from King Louis XIV to Jean-Baptiste de Ferrero, Marquis de Saint-Laurent, colonel commanding the Nice Regiment, appointing Sieur Bonet to the post of lieutenant in the ‘Saint-Nazar’ Company ’. Dated at Versailles, 26 March 1692. Signed ‘Louis’ (secretary). 1 sheet of paper, 36x24 cm, with small tears at the folds but no loss of text or paper. The former Saint-Laurent Regiment took the name ‘Nice Regiment’ on 8 May 1691, after the County of Nice, which had just been conquered. As part of the War of the League of Augsburg, it took part in the siege of Namur – marked by the presence of Louis XIV on the scene – and in the Battle of Steinkerque in 1692.
