[NAPOLEON I / TE DEUM] – A letter signed by Napoleon ordering a Te Deum to be sung to celebrate his coronation. Paris, 12 Frimaire, Year XIII. Autograph signatures of Napoleon I and Portalis, Minister of Religious Affairs. 4 pages of paper, 31.5 x 20 cm. Very good condition. A very interesting letter, dated 3 December 1804, the day after the coronation of Napoleon I by Pope Pius VII at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. ‘Providence has granted me renewed strength to bear the weight of the crown which it has placed upon my head, in the satisfaction my people have shown on the occasion of my consecration and coronation, which took place yesterday with all the added pomp and solemnity afforded by the presence of our Most Holy Father, the visible head of the Universal Church…’ The addressee of this letter is not specified.
