Description
[MILITARIA / CHIROPRACTIC] - A fine collection of archives belonging to Edward Schwing, an American doctor who graduated from the Davenport School of Chiropractic (Iowa): diplomas, signed menus, photographs, press cuttings, a biography, speeches, a curious case involving buried gold ingots, etc. Also included are the papers of Corporal Edward Henry Schwing Junior (certificate from the Military Intelligence Training Centre, photographs from the Pacific War, etc.). Around a hundred documents in total.
Edward Schwing was born in 1893 in Rochester (New York). In 1917, he enlisted as a volunteer in the US Army to serve in France, where he contracted Spanish flu. On his return to the United States, he enrolled at the Davenport School of Chiropractic. Upon graduating, he joined the staff of the chief medical officer at the Institution Nationale des Invalides in Paris, where he helped many seriously wounded French soldiers using this new science. He also organised numerous banquets in aid of French war invalids.
