[ILLUSTRATION / MARC DAUTRY] – A set of 32 engravings and 1 original drawing used to illustrate the book published by Marc Dautry, *La Passion du dessin*: Orpheus, The Laughing Girl of Spring, the man in the fur cap, the garrigue, Raboliot, the scapegoat, studies for the burin, the yoke of envy, the Magus, the Silent Man, Guéray’s House, as well as a group of figures engraved in 16 successive states, numbered from 1 to 14 and from 16 to 17 (1958–1961). Included with the work is: MARC DAUTRY. La passion du dessin. Nouvelles Éditions. Loubatières, 112 pages, 2013. A collection of truly remarkable craftsmanship. Marc Dautry was born on 11 March 1930 in Nîmes and died on 12 July 2008 in Montauban. He studied at the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse before going on to enjoy a distinguished career in sculpture and illustration. He is responsible for the Statue of Liberty in Montauban and the Stele of Deportation in Montpezat-de-Quercy. In the field of illustration, his work includes the 63 lithographs for Céline’s *Voyage au but de la nuit* (1979), Montesquieu’s *Lettres persanes* published by Éditions de l’Imprimerie Nationale, and 21 engravings for *Les Caprins* (1977). According to Paul Duchein, Marc Dautry “must be regarded as one of the finest engravers working today; few artists since Dürer, Lucas de Seyde, Schongauer, Callot or Raimondi have managed to use with such ease and mastery a tool that is so simple and yet so prodigiously difficult to handle”.
