Description
C. WIGNIER and Pierre BULLIARD (1752–1793), based on
a three-volume collection comprising hand-drawn and watercoloured plates depicting species of fungi.
The texts are written in ink. Approximately 300 plates (plates 2, 4, 7, 10, 14–493, 494, 496...)
The plates include reproductions from the work published from 1791 onwards: ‘Herbier de la France; or, A Complete Collection of the Native Plants of this Kingdom; with their properties and their uses in medicine, Part: The History of the Fungi of France or An Elementary Treatise containing, in a methodical order, the Descriptions and Illustrations of the Fungi that grow naturally in France, the publication of which is now commencing”.
Stains (including water or ink stains), foxing.
Bindings probably in half-shagreen. The spine, in plum tones, bears the inscription “C-WIGNIER _ BULLIARD”? The covers are marbled brown cardboard.
The reference to C WIGNIER may refer to Charles WIGNIER DE WARRE (1834–1897), a botanist from Picardy and author of a *Catalogue of Mosses in the Abbeville District* (is there a connection with the author of these drawings?)
3 volumes (volumes 1, 2 and 3).
Shows signs of wear (dulled corners, scuffs, scratches, worn spines, etc.).
31 x 24 cm.
