( * ) A French daily newspaper published between 1892 and 1944, with its headquarters at 100 rue de Richelieu, Paris. Until 1911 it was a literary journal with a republican slant, one of the most important French daily newspapers before the war. Its nationalist leanings grew stronger over the years until it disappeared with the end of the "Vichy regime" in 1944. Many famous writers contributed to the paper, including Émile Zola, Léon Daudet, Jules Renard, Alphonse Allais, Georges Courteline and Clémenceau. Circulation around 1900 was 450,000.
