For around thirty years, aluminium remained expensive to produce and therefore rare. At the time, France was practically the only country to produce it.
( ** ) - Tours was one of the very first towns to open a secondary school for girls, a major innovation at the time, following the Law of 21 September 1880 allowing secondary education for women in order, according to Doctor Fournier of Tours, "to improve the moral level of women, to improve the state of their intelligence through well-chosen studies and to inspire in them a sense of honour and virtue". The school was particularly modern and hygienic, with hot water (rare at the time), showers and a bathroom; 200 places for classes, 100 places for boarding. - 75 pupils enrolled in 1904.
