Jean LASCOUMES (1937), Bordeaux, view of the harbour, watercolour, SBD 30x48 cm – 46x64 cm including frame. A native of Bordeaux or Béarn, inspired by the Gironde, the gaves, the Landes, the lakes and the Arcachon Basin, Jean LASCOUMES is a painter, sculptor, engraver … and jazz musician. Jean LASCOUMES was born in 1937 in Lisieux, Calvados. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux (in Gaston MARTY’s studio) and later in Paris (at the U.F.R. d’Arts Plastiques, Paris I). During his time in Paris, he worked with CÉSAR and Etienne MARTIN. Alongside his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts, he pursued university studies. He began teaching in 1959. He was a lecturer at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux from 1975 to 2002; and taught at the University of Bordeaux III from 1981 to 2000. A prolific and charismatic artist, Jean LASCOUMES is a pillar of the contemporary Bordeaux school
