Description
FRANCE OFFICIAL POSTCARD type 1873. The law of 20 December 1872 created postcards for open circulation in France and Algeria at the prices of 10 and 15 centimes. Ten centimes for correspondence within the district of the same office, or Paris for Paris, Fifteen for those circulating in France and Algeria from office to office The first 2 cards to come out of the Imprimerie Nationale were issued on 15 January 1873. The Imprimerie Nationale was unable to keep up with demand (7,240,000 cards were sold in the first week!) and had to subcontract production to private printers. - MODEL OFF 6 (Storch & Sinais catalogue) from the Imprimerie Privée: black on white bristol issued in January 1873. Fleur-de-lys frame with large fleur-de-lys at the 4 corners. 2 lines of text along the frame, M for monsieur simple, mention dép t d for département de... 6 lines of vertical text below the stamp frame with no mention of price in either the frame or the text. - UNCOMMON NEW FORMULA.
