Letter from Paris, March 22nd 1816, for Bergues / Nord. - Carries VERY RARE postmark, cursive 2 lines, struck in red: "PAIR de FRANCE / DIRECTEUR Gal des POSTES".
Very rare postmark n° 2010 from the André Rochette and Jean Pothion catalogue of 1958, price three thousand five hundred francs at the time.
note: on 2 October 1815, the Marquis d' Herbouville, peer of France, was appointed Director of the Post Office, replacing Count Beugnot, and his countersignature appeared almost immediately. He was replaced on 3 November 1816. A new countersignature then appeared.
