WAR OF 1870 - COMBATS OF ORLEANS - Commemorative medal "French Republic". Head of the Republic after Dupré, profile to the left wearing the Phrygian cap, 2 hands joined below the neck - on the reverse, 12 lines of text under a cannon: "Combat d'Orléans le 11 octobre 1870. The French army made up of 5,000 men from the Légion Étrangère, Zouaves pontificaux, Nièvre mobile units and chasseurs à pied stopped the Bavarian army of 45,000 fighters and 100 cannons for one day - on the exergue civic crown. Red copper 47.5 mm - 41.65 grams - TTB note: not listed in the 2 works by Lienhardt & Alvarez.
