- Public exhibition of the products of French industry, organised in Paris, in order to offer a panorama of the productions of the various branches of industry with an aim of emulation, existing from 1798 to 1849. These exhibitions led to the 1st Universal Exhibition in 1851. - It was the brainchild of Nicolas François de Neufchâteau, an agronomist and minister under the Directoire. The Year X Exhibition (1801), the 2nd of its kind, brought together 110 exhibitors over 3 days in the square courtyard of the Louvre.
