SILVER - Tribute medal to R.J. POTHIER ( * ) - VERY RARE large silver medal with 50 mm setting. - not listed in the work by Messrs Lienhardt & Alvarez.
"R.J. POTHIER NAT AURELIAE M.DC.XCIX.LXXII, his bust in high relief by Vivier.
Reverse: UTRIQUE VITAM IMPENDIT, allegorical scene representing the church holding a cross in the left hand and in the right a vase placed on a pedestal decorated with a hand inscribed in a snake biting its tail and an oil lamp; on a lectern marked with a cross is a book marked Biblia Sacra. On the right, Justice with a star above her forehead, holding a balance, crowning a vase. At the exergue 3 lines: "Exsequitum solemnia instaurata in eccles cathedr aurelian nov XVII an M.DCCC.XXIII".
