( * ) YENCESSE : born and died in Dijon 1869 / 1947 - Medalist and sculptor, Director of the Dijon School of Fine Arts from 1919 to 1934; pupil of Hubert Ponscarme, failed twice in the Prix de Rome competition in 1893 & 1896. According to the critic Roger Marx, he "brought a new thrill to the medal by introducing an impressionist rendering". He developed a style inspired by the painter Eugène Carrière, which consisted of developing an "artistic blur" on his strikes as well as a characteristic dark patina.
