LE Cl LAHALLE 1904. Title above, award below. In the centre a round illustration in the form of a seal: "The HOPE of GLORY ELEVATES the GENIUS", an allegorical group comprising an angel on the left, a woman dressed in antique style on the right waving crowns. At their feet are various painting and sculpture materials and an anchor. In the exergue text 3 lines: "école acad. et grat. de peint. sculp (ABC) / (etaris) dependans du dessein / à Orléans 1786". (sic) note 1: Emile Hilaire Salomon DAVOUST, born in Orléans on 25 March 1845, died in 1890. Painter and engraver, curator at the Orléans Historical Museum. note 2: Charles Dominique Oscar LAHALLE, born in Laxou (54) in 1833, died in Paris in 1909. Senior officer in the French army and painter: an officer in the Second Empire, he took part in the Italian campaign (1859-1862) and the Mexican expedition as chief of staff to Marshal Bazaine. He then turned to an artistic career as a painter, particularly known for his depiction of military scenes illustrating the conflicts in which he took part.
